Skateboarding Made Simple · Chapter 15 of 18
Rock to fakie is your first real ramp trick. You ride up a quarter pipe, rock the front wheels over the coping and roll back down backwards.
In This Chapter
- Riding up the ramp
- Rocking over the coping
- Rolling away fakie
Gear Check
Board, helmet, pads recommended, and a small quarter pipe or mini ramp.
Step by Step
- Practice riding up the ramp and rolling back down fakie without any trick.
- Ride up with enough speed for your front truck to reach the coping.
- Lift your front wheels slightly and set the middle of the board on the coping.
- Keep your weight centered and over the board.
- Lift the front wheels back over the coping and roll away fakie.
Tip
Keep your shoulders parallel to the board and your weight over your back foot as you come back in.
Remember
You only need the front wheels over the coping. The back wheels stay on the ramp.
Warning
Wear a helmet. Ramp falls happen fast.
Common Mistakes (and How to Fix Them)
- Hanging up on the coping. Lift the front wheels fully back over.
- Leaning back. Stay centered over the board.
- Not enough speed. A little more speed makes it easier.
Skate Nerd Stuff
Rock and roll is the same trick but with a 180 kick turn to come back in forwards.
Your Practice Plan
- Ride up and down fakie 20 times.
- Tap the front wheels on the coping.
- Full rock to fakie.
